Mardi Himal Trek: A journey through the clouds

Mardi Himal Trek: A journey through the clouds
**Mardi Himal Trek: A Journey through the Clouds** **Introduction** In 2022, I embarked on one of the most breathtaking trekking adventures—the Mardi Himal Trek—with my college friends. Nestled in the Annapurna region of Nepal, Mardi Himal is a hidden gem offering a perfect blend of serene trails, mesmerizing landscapes, and panoramic mountain views. This trek was not just about reaching the destination but about experiencing nature’s beauty, sharing laughter with friends, and creating unforgettable memories. **Starting the Adventure: Kathmandu to Australian Base Camp** Our journey began in Kathmandu from where we drive through lush forest to Pokhara, the gateway to many trekking routes in Nepal. After leaving few weight from our backpack in the hotel, we took a short drive to Kande, our starting point. Excitement filled the air as we tightened our backpacks and set off on the trail. The initial part of the trek took us through lush forests, stone-paved paths, and occasional steep ascents. We passed Australian Camp, a beautiful spot with breathtaking views of the Annapurna range where we stayed for the night. It was a great day as I spent the night with a group of colluges I never talked to before. **Through the Enchanted Forest: Australian Base Camp to High Camp** The second day, we trekked through lush forest filled with fog, crossing Pothana and then Forest Camp where we spent our second night. This day, we walked for about 4-5 hours but after dinner, it started raining making all of us worried about the trek. **Into the Mystical Forests: Forest Camp to High Camp** The next morning, we set off towards Low Camp and then High Camp. This section of the trek was magical—dense rhododendron forests, moss-covered trees, and occasional glimpses of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail Mountain) peeking through the mist. As we climbed higher, the landscapes started changing. The forests gave way to alpine meadows, and the air grew thinner and colder. Reaching High Camp (3,580m) was a moment of triumph. The view was all blocked by the fog. Sitting around a small fire in the tea house, we started having conversation with friends sipping on a hot tea, feeling the warmth of friendship despite the chilly mountain air. **The Final Ascent: High Camp to Mardi Himal Viewpoint** The most thrilling part of the trek was the early morning hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m). We started before dawn, using our headlamps to navigate the rocky trails. But it started raining with small ices as we reached near the viewpoint making us feel demotivated. It started snowing upon reaching the viewpoint. But the best view came as soon as it stopped snowing. As the first light of the sun touched the snow-capped peaks, we stood in awe—the towering Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre seemed almost within reach. We get to see this view while descending from the viewpoint to High Camp. The panoramic view from the Mardi Himal Viewpoint was absolutely breathtaking. The trek had been challenging, but the sense of accomplishment and the sheer beauty of the moment made every step worth it. **Descending Back to Reality** After soaking in the views, no matter it was just for half an hour, we began our descent. The return journey felt different—lighter, nostalgic, yet fulfilling. We retraced our steps through Low Camp and Sidhing before heading back to Pokhara in jeep. **Final Thoughts** The Mardi Himal Trek is more than just a trekking route; it’s an experience of self-discovery, adventure, and connection—with nature, friends, and oneself. The journey tested our endurance, rewarded us with unparalleled views, and left us with memories to cherish forever. If you’re looking for a moderate trek with stunning mountain vistas, diverse landscapes, and an off-the-beaten-path experience, Mardi Himal should be on your list! You can bring sim of NTC if you are thinking of bringing one. Others you can rely on tea houses as this trek is fully facilitated.
